Managing safety on beaches and coastal waters

Details

The UK’s beaches are special places, known around the world for their beauty and for attracting millions of people every year. They create lifelong cherished memories for those who visit, and are vital to the economies of both local communities and the country as a whole; they generate millions through tourism, and attract new residents who are seeking a better work-life balance. This contributes directly to the survival of our seaside towns and resorts.

This guide, from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), has been created to assist those who may have duties prescribed in law, or who are in effective control of the beach. This helps them ensure that safety is at the forefront of everything they do therefore keeping people safe by assessing the risks and preventing incidents. It applies widely accepted risk management principles that can be used to improve the safety of everyone visiting our beaches.
