Details

The GB and NI guides were converted from PDF to HTML format on 17 March 2022 to make them more accessible for users but their content remained the same.

This guidance will assist your understanding of the regulations as amended at the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020 and includes obligations for economic operators (manufacturers, their authorised representatives, importers and distributors), conformity assessment bodies and market surveillance authorities.

  1. Guides amended to clarify what actions businesses must take if non-compliance with the regulations is found.

  2. GB and NI guides converted to HTML format for accessibility reasons.

  3. Guides updated to clarify product labelling requirements, reflect the extension of the transition period for UKCA marking, and refer to EU Market Surveillance Regulation 2019/1020, now in force in Northern Ireland.

  4. Version 2 of the GB guidance and version 2 of the NI guidance published, with section 3 amended to clarify that government and public authority laboratories and forensic laboratories are not excluded from the regulations.

The guidance has been updated to reflect the removal of all references to the 'old approach' Directive 74/148/EEC concerning above-medium accuracy weights courtesy of the Weights & Measures (Revocations) Regulations 2015, coming into force on 1 December 2015. Regulation 8 ‘appropriate equipment for tests’ has been completely removed with the guidance explaining in detail the appropriate weights to be used. Further updates include new references to the harmonised standard EN45501:2015 and guidance on non-automatic measuring instruments used for Quantitative Ingredients Declaration.
