DCDC Internship programme

Overview

DCDC runs runs a paid internship programme open to anyindividuals Masters-levelwho (post-graduate)are students.currently undertaking, or have recently completed, post-graduate studies. This is designed to bring recent academic research and practice to support support DCDC outputs outputs and to give interns the experience of working in government on major Defence and security related strategic issues.

The programme helps helps DCDC to to strengthen our diversity of thinkingthinking, which is essential to our work, supporting research and analysis on a wide range of defenceDefence and security policy areas.

Details

The internship programme opens for applications in February, with interns joining joining DCDC in in the summer, usually for around six to eight weeks. Interns will support support DCDC in in a wide range of areasareas, such as;including:

• supporting supporting DCDC’s work on the Strategic Trends Programme, including research, data-gathering, data analysis and writing support on strategy papers for the Seventh Edition of Global Strategic TrendsTrends;
• supporting other other DCDC projects, projects, providing research papers and analysis to assist in the development of our thinking and providing critical challenge to widen perspectives of future challenges
• supportingchallenges; the research and production of short occasional papers and think-pieces in support of MOD Head Office and wider government, and on the selection and preparation of background reading papers for the UK Strategy Forum
• supporting supporting DCDC’s Strategic Analysis and Research Team in their work providing the empirical evidence to support support DCDC products. products. This may include involvement in a wide range of analysis and experimentation activities, including:such dataas: analysis,red informationteaming, graphics,wargaming, reddata teaming;analysis, warinformation gaming;visualisations, synthesising operational lessons;lessons, identifying trends;trends, developing thought-provoking insight;insight and challenging thinking.

Detailed briefings on these tasks, including length, scope and depth,depth will be givenprovided at the beginning of the internship.

TheInterns 2022will summerbe internshipemployed isas eightCivil weeksServants long,and startingwill from 11 July. Interns work 37 hours per weekweek. andPay paywill isbe £9.50£10.42 an hour (National Living Wage).

In line with with DCDC’s new ways of working, the internship will have a hybrid working pattern with some time spent in the office and some time spent working remotely (from home).

There will be inin-office office working at the start and end of the internship,internship and at other times by mutual agreement between internseach individual intern and their assigned desk officer.officer and/or mentor. Accommodation will be provided on-site at Shrivenham,Shrivenham forat no cost,cost to the interns during periods that interns are expected in the office.

Applicants must either hold a Masters-level qualification or be working on one. There are no requirementsrestrictions onregarding study area, howeverthough an interest in Defence and/or international affairs is essentialessential, and this should be reflected in your application.
