FCDO advises against all but essential travel to New Caledonia

Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against FCDO advice. Consular support is also severely limited where FCDO advises against travel.

Given ongoing tensions and the current closure of the international airport, we advise against all but essential travel to New Caledonia.

Following ongoing protests and blockades, a state of emergency is currently in force in New Caledonia. The state of emergency is due to end at 20.00 on Monday 27 May 2024.

Leaving New Caledonia

France, Australia and New Zealand have been carrying out evacuation flights from New Caledonia.Caledonia.  TheseWe expect these flights willto come to andan end soon. We are in direct contact with British Nationals about options to join these. If you are a British National in New Caledonia in need of consular support, please contact the British Embassy in Paris which operates a 24/7 consular telephone service (telephone: +33 (0) 1 44 51 31 00). We cannot guarantee the availability of flights so, should you wish to leave and be offered an evacuation flight, we strongly recommend that you accept.

The international airport at Nouméa-La Tontouta remains closed to commercial flights. Commercial flights are not expected to resume until 09:00further (local time) on Tuesday 28 May at the earliest.notice.
