Overview
Starting from March 2024, the MOD will begin introducing a modernised accommodation offer for our armed forces.
The planned changes are intended to modernise accommodation entitlements, improve the standard of Single Living Accommodation,Accommodation (SLA), provide support for home ownership and update the overseas accommodation offer.
What is happening as part of the Modernised Accommodation Offer
Support for weekly commuters
TheFrom introductionMarch of2024 theuntil offerMarch will2026, leadSLA waiver of charges are available to all Service personnel with dual accommodation, i.e. Service personnel living in SLA during the followingweek changes:
Supportwith fora weeklyprivately-maintained commuters
property or retained SFA away from their duty station.
WaiversPersonnel can benefit regardless of Singleage, LivingService, Accommodationor chargesrelationship willstatus. beThis extendeddecision sohas thatbeen allmade personnelto whoprovide havecontinuity while the MOD develops a Privatelyfair Maintainedand Propertysustainable orpayment retainedscheme Serviceto Familysupport AccommodationService (SFA)personnel willwho receivemaintain a waiver,main inhome accordanceaway withfrom currenttheir singleassigned Servicelocation.

New standards in Single Living Accommodation
A minimum standard for SingleSLA Living Accommodation has been agreedagreed, and we have been assessing the entire SingleSLA Living Accommodation estate to understand where rooms are currently failing to meet this. This is now informing where investment is needed.
Increased support to buy a home
We have already made Forces Help to Buy is now a permanent part of ourthe Defence accommodation policy. and,From underMarch the2024, modernisedfurther accommodationsupport offer,is webeing willprovided offerto furtherService supportpersonnel forwho Serviceare personnelrequired becomingto move accommodation on a firstnew homeassignment ownerand atare buying a newfirst assignment,home, refunding up to £1,500 of their legal expenses.expenses. Improving the overseas accommodation offer
WhileThe theEstablished ModernisedLong-Term AccommodationRelationship Offer(LTR(E)) willoverseas beginpilot itshas rollbeen outrunning successfully in theForces UK,Cyprus we(BFC) aresince alreadyJanuary looking2024. atIt howhas now been extended to rollrun outuntil asthe muchend of itMarch as2027. possibleNew overseas,pilot beginningsites withhave pilotsalso atbeen added, including BATUS (Canada) and other selected locations.locations Overseasacross the Global Defense Network (GDN).
