Details

The meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine iswas being introduced in response to an increase in cases of invasive meningococcal disease capsular group W (MenW) disease.

The vaccine has successfully provided direct protection to the vaccinated cohort and, by reducing carriage of MenW and MenC, has also provided indirect protection to unvaccinated children and adults. From 1 July 2025 MenC vaccine will no longer be offered to infants and these MenACWY resources have been updated to reflect this change. Maintaining high uptake of MenACWY vaccine amongst teenagers is important so that they, and unvaccinated children and adults continue to be protected.

This information for healthcare professionals about the MenACWY programme includes details on:

  • the purpose of the programme
  • who the vaccine is recommended for
  • when vaccines will be available to order
  • how to administer the vaccine

There is a MenACWY vaccination training slide set to accompany this guidance.
