Get a biosecurity report to receive poultry in a bird flu disease zone

How to get a biosecurity report for your premises to receive poultry moved under a specific movement licence in a bird flu disease zone.

Applies to England, Scotland and Wales

You need a valid biosecurity report for your premises to receive day old chicks or live birds moved under a specific movement licence in a bird flu disease zone.

The report is completed by an official veterinarian (OV) or APHA vet inspector who visits your premises to check the biosecurity measures you have in place to protect against the spread of bird flu (avian influenza).

You can get a report at any time. Having a report ready in advance can help to speed up movement licence applications.

If you do not have a valid report, APHA cannot grant movement licence applications to your premises until you either:

  • get a report
  • revalidate an existing report - if your premises completes a production cycle within 6 months of your report

You need to get a new biosecurity report every 6 months.

Get a biosecurity report

To get a biosecurity report for your premises:

  1. Contact an OV or APHA vet inspector to organise a biosecurity visit of your premises.

  2. The vet will visit your premises to assess the biosecurity measures you have in place and complete a biosecurity report (EDO338).

  3. The vet will send a copy of the report to APHA. You can also keep a copy for your records. The report is valid for up to 6 months.

  4. When APHA recieve a movement licence application to move poultry to your premises they will check if you have a valid biosecurity report.

If you do not have a valid report, APHA will contact the person who applied for the movement licence to explain why they cannot grant the licence.

Revalidate a biosecurity report

If your premises completes a production cycle within 6 months of your report, a vet will need to re-validate your report.

This should be either the vet who signed the original report, or an OV who has visited your premises since the original report was made. They may not need to revisit your premises to revalidate the report.
