This prison service instruction (PSI) and probation instruction (PI) outlines the security vetting process for all people working in or for the prison and probation services. This includes:

• headquarters
• public and private prisons
• escort and electronic monitoring contractors
• attendance centres
• community rehabilitation companies and other service providers

It includes guidance on the various vetting levels and the types of checks required.

It covers pre-employment checks, renewals, changes in vetting level and transfers between government departments.
