Set up an account
RegisterUse usingour online service to set up your existingbusiness rates valuation account. You will need a Government Gateway ID.ID to sign in or register.
IfDo younot doshare notyour Government Gateway login details with anyone, because this will give them access to your other HMRC services.
If you have a Government Gateway ID,ID
Enter you’llyour createexisting oneGovernment whenGateway youID register.and password in the sign-in page.
RegisterYou forwill ahave businessan ratesID valuationif account.you have used HMRC’s online services before. You may be able to find your details in your emails by searching your inbox for ‘Government gateway user ID’.

If you have forgotten your ID or password, there are options at the bottom of the sign-in page to createhelp ayou.
If newyou do not have a Government Gateway ID
CreateSelect the ‘Create sign in details’ link on the sign-in page. This will take you to the registration service to create a new Government Gateway IDID.

To tofinish usesetting up your businessaccount, ratesyou valuationwill account.need to enter your:
Adding
- date
anotherof person
birth in the DD-MM-YYYY format
YouYour canfirst addand anotherlast personnames toshould yourexactly accountmatch duringyour registrationpassport or underother official documents. Your passport needs to be current, as expired ones will not be recognised by the system.
This information is used to match you with existing HMRC records. Other than your accountcontact details, the VOA does not retain any other personal information you use when registering. You do not need to submit any business details inwhen theyou serviceregister. You will be asked for them when you’reyou signedadd in.a property to your account.
Types of accounts
You’llYou can set up two kinds of accounts:
- individual account – for sole traders and self-employed people
- organisation account – for accounts that need to be
anmanagedadministratorbyformore than one person
If you want to add co-workers, family or friends to manage your organisation’sbusiness Governmentrates, Gatewayask them to create individual accounts. You must be an account administrator to add anothernew person.accounts You’reto the organisation account. You will be an administrator if you created the Government Gateway account or if youan haveexisting beenadministrator added you as one.
If you are appointing an administratoragent, ask for their agent code to theadd account.them. Do not let an agent create an account for you.
