Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa has developed into a major hurricane seasonand (‘Warningsis forecast to bring exceptional levels of rainfall and insurance’high pagestorm surges in the coming days. Local authorities continue to monitor the weather system closely. Stay informed by monitoring local and international weather updates, including from the Bahamas Department of Meteorology website, as well as the US National Hurricane Centre. Follow the guidance of local authorities, especially in relation to evacuation orders. See ‘Extreme weather and natural disasters’ on the ‘Safety and security’ page). page.

Hurricanes

The hurricane season in The Bahamas normally runs from 1 June to 30 November. Please stay updated on local news, and follow all advice and orders issued by the Government and local authorities.

The Government of The Bahamas issues wireless emergency alerts, including evacuation orders, directly to mobile phones and provides updates on the Bahamas Department of Meteorology website 

Travel disruption, including at airports, are likely at short notice.
