The Governance Code on Public Appointments sets out the process and principles that should underpin all public appointments made to bodies listed in the Public Appointments Order in Council (pdf, 240 KB).
Public appointments to bodies listed on the Order in Council are regulated by the independent Commissioner for Public Appointments.
The Governance Code was first published in December 2016, following a review of public appointments led by Sir Gerry Grimstone. A minor update was issued in February 2024, to fulfil a commitment made by the Government in response to three reports on strengthening ethics and integrity in central government.
