This is due to disruption and unrest following the national election on 29 October. This has led to shortages of food, fuel and cash which have been compounded by a lack of internet services.

ProtestsPolitical situation and disruption to services and supplies

General elections took place in Tanzania on 29 October.

Following violent protests and unrest in some parts of the country, thethere Tanzanianhave policebeen announcedfatalities aand curfewinjuries. effectiveAlthough fromthe 6pm-6ampolitical localsituation timeis whichnow remainscalmer, indemonstrations placecan onbe theunpredictable mainland.and may turn violent again.

Someinterfering internationalwith andor domesticinciting flightsanti-government have been cancelled. protests.

There are nowidespread ferriesdisruptions runningto fromtransport Darnationwide, esincluding Salaamroad toblocks. Zanzibar. The SGR rail service isand alsoferries notbetween running.the mainland and Zanzibar are operating a reduced service.

There are fuel, cash and water access challenges across the country. Some supermarkets are running low on food supplies due to the closure of Dar es Salaam port. Public hospitals are reporting shortage of medical supplies.

British nationals are advised to:

  • limit movements
  • adhere to the curfews
  • monitor local media
  • follow the advice of the local authorities
  • stay away from all demonstrations, rallies, and large crowds
