enable flexibility from consumers, known as ‘demand side response’. Consumers will need access to ’energy smart’ appliances that make it easier to change their consumption patterns, alongside tariffs and services that incentivise this change.
TheInteroperability IDSRof programmeenergy (oversmart £12.8appliances million)will consistsenable consumers to access different propositions for demand side response, either earning revenue or reducing costs through providing value to the energy system. Increased uptake of 3demand streamsside response will reduce the costs of workdecarbonisation, supportingreducing bills for all consumers.
As part of this, the innovation, government design, committed to taking powers to set regulatory requirements for ‘energy smart’ appliances, guided by the core principles of interoperability, data privacy, cyber security, and demonstrationgrid stability.
This programme is part of interoperablethe demandup sideto response£65 systems.million overarching Flexibility Innovation Programme which seeks to enable large-scale widespread electricity system flexibility through smart, flexible, secure, and accessible technologies and markets. The Flexibility Innovation Programme will fund innovation across a range of key smart energy applications, and sits within the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP).
