Fees you’ll pay for money laundering supervision
Find out the fees you need to pay HMRC for anti-money laundering supervision, and how to pay them.

You must pay fees to HMRC when you register for anti-money laundering supervision.
These are:
- an application fee
- a registration fee for each premises (this needs to be paid annually for each premises)
- a fit and proper test fee (for money service businesses, or trust or company service providers) for each person tested
- an approval process fee (for accountancy service providers, estate agency businesses, or high value dealers) for each person tested
Application fee
When you first register you must pay a one-off registration fee of £300 which is non-refundable. Businesses whose registration is withdrawn (because they cease then subsequently resume providing relevant activity) or have their registration cancelled (including those who do not pay their annual fees) will also have to pay this fee if they reapply for supervision. This fee will be waived for businesses eligible for the small business reduction.
Premises registration fee
When you register you must pay £300£400 for each of the premises you include in your application.

If HMRC refuses your application to register, we willmay refund your premises fee if:if the:
youbusiness is out of scope of The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 (MLR 2017)- business is already supervised by a professional body and does not require separate supervision by HMRC
- business did not supply all the information
weneeded someonebusinessindidyournot pay all the fees associated with that application- beneficial owner, officer or manager (BOOM) of the business failed the fit and proper test or approval check and the application was not approved by HMRC
- business has applied as the wrong legal entity
- business withdraws its application before it is registered
Adding or removing premises from your registration
If you want to add new premises to your registration in the first 6 months of the year, you will need to pay the full fee for each premises.
If you want to add new premises to your registration in the second 6 months of the year, you will need to pay half of the fee for each premises.
If you need to remove a premises from your registration, HMRC will not refund the fee for that premises.
Fit and proper test fee
If you are a money service business or a trust or company service provider there is a non-refundable fit and proper test fee of £150£500 for each person tested.
Approval process fee
TheRelevant newbeneficial moneyowners, launderingofficers regulationsor managers that work in any of the following sectors need an approval test to check some employees for relevant criminal convictions if you’re any of the following:convictions:
- an accountancy service

A non-refundable charge of £40 will apply for each person tested.
Fees are calculated and paid when you make a new application and when you complete your annual registration.
Annual supervisiondeclaration fee
Towards the end of your registration year HMRC will send you an email telling you to log in to your account to update your registration.
The annual supervisiondeclaration fee is £300£400 for each of the premises shown on the application.
HMRC may cancel your registration if you do not pay your annual supervisiondeclaration fee on time.
Businesses with turnover below £5,000
If your business turnover is less than £5,000 you can apply for a small business reduction.
This means you will have to pay the full £300 application fee and £400 premises fee for registration but will receive a £120£500 refund if your application or annual supervisiondeclaration has been accepted.
After you have paid for, and submitted,submitted your application you will need to contact us at AMLS.Fees@hmrc.gov.uk with ‘Turnover Reduction’ in the subject line.
In the body of the email you’ll need to include your:
- anti-money laundering supervision registration number
- previous years turnover (if trading for more than 12 months)
- anticipated turnover if you are a new business
We will check the accuracy of the information you provide. We will contact you if we need you to send extra information of documents.
We will not be able to process your application until you make your full payment.
Once thatwe ishave complete,the werequired willinformation refundand £120have ofapproved your £300application registration or annual supervisiondeclaration, fee.
Wewe will aim to process your refund within 30 days of approval of your application or annual supervision and we have the required information.days.
How to pay
You should pay your fees when you first apply to register and when you complete your annual supervision.declaration. When you give details of your business, the online service will work out how much you owe and let you pay the total amount due for each type of fee.
Make a note of the payment reference (it has 12 digits and 2 letters starting with X) when you submit your application or annual supervision.declaration.
There will be a delay in your payment if you use the wrong reference number.
If you do not have your payment reference number you can email: MLRCIT@hmrc.gov.uk to ask for it before making a payment.
