Context and major investment projects
DEO was mobilised in late 2016 to contribute to the 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review’s commitment to invest in key defence sites and meet future force structure requirements.

Site disposals
As part of the optimisation process, defenceDEO willis disposealso ofreleasing sitessurplus government land that areis no longer required for military use asfor unitsalternative moveredevelopment toin moresupport purpose-built facilities.
Disposing of thesehousing sitesand create exciting opportunities for alternative use, resulting in regeneration, business growthgrowth, and job creation within the local area. To date, creation.
DEO has releasedis overon 1,430target hectaresto ofrelease enough surplus DefenceMOD land for commercialover and32,000 residentialnew developmenthomes at 25 sites.nationwide.
