State of Emergency declared 

The Government of Belize has announced a 30-day State of Emergency covering specific regions within Belize City and the Belize District.District. 

This was implemented in response to a surge in gang related violence and grants law enforcement expanded powers to restore order and ensure public safety in affected communities. Short term States of Emergency are used periodically in Belize.

The current State of Emergency provides the police with extended powers, and this includes the introduction of a curfew for minors running from 8pm to 6am daily and requires that any minor out in public during these hours must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

This includes areas such as: 

  • the Southside and parts of Northside in Belize City 

  • Belize Rural 

  • Ladyville Village

  • Burrell Boom Village  

  • Fresh Pound Community 

  • Buttercup Estates 

  • Bermudian Landing Village 

  • Lemonal Village 

  • Isabella Bank 

  • Rancho Dolores Village 

  • Double Head Cabbage Village
