STI Prioritisation Framework
An evidence-based framework to inform local prioritisation decisions for sexually transmitted infection (STI) control.
Applies to England
Documents
Details
The STI Prioritisation Framework provides an evidence-based and structured approach to local prioritisation for organisations with responsibility for planning and delivery of sexual health services.services (SHSs).
STIs impact different groups in society unequally. Some STIs cause more health problems in certain groups compared to others, whilst some groups face greater barriers to accessing sexualSHSs. health services. The framework shifts the focus of STI control efforts towards preventing adverse health outcomes and reducing health inequalities.
To inform prioritisation, the documents set out available evidence and outline a three-pronged approach that can be applied locally, considering S (situation), T (target groups) and I (interventions):
- Situation: assess the needs of the local population and the demand and supply of services
- Target groups: consider local population groups and infections for prioritisation
- Intervention: identify, tailor, implement and evaluate the most appropriate intervention for each target group
Three accompanying videos have been produced with different levels of detail to support the implementation of the framework:
- bitesize overview of the STI Prioritisation Framework
- high-level walk through of the STI Prioritisation Framework
- using the STI prioritisation planning tool in the STI Prioritisation Framework
STI Prioritisation Framework: Monitoring and Evaluation Plan
An STI Prioritisation Framework: Monitoring and Evaluation Plan sets out a representative and selective set of indicators, drawn largely from existing surveillance systems and data sources, chosen to provide meaningful insight into progress. Together, these indicators are used to assess whether the framework is delivering its intended impacts, including preventing adverse health outcomes and reducing health inequalities.
