Details

The third cycling and walking investment strategy (CWIS3) sets out the government’s vision and objectives for active travel.

The aims and targets in CWIS2, alongside our consultation on developing the third cycling and walking investment strategy, have informed the objectives we have set out in CWIS3 to:

  • enable more people, particularly the least active, to benefit from physical activity through active travel
  • make active travel the easy and integrated choice
  • improve safety for people walking, wheeling and cycling
  • meet the target that 55% of all short stages in towns and cities will be walked or cycled by 2035

See the third cycling and walking investment strategy report to Parliament 2026 for more information.
