Detail of outcome

The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has decided to implement, subject to Parliamentary approval, the proposal for 2 unitary councils to be established in East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

This proposal was submitted by:

  • East Sussex County Council
  • Eastbourne Borough Council
  • Hastings Borough Council
  • Lewes District Council
  • Rother District Council

The Secretary of State will exercise the power to modify the proposal to achieve the boundary change requested by Brighton and Hove City Council, with the exception of Falmer Parish.

We are seeking views on potential modification to the 2 unitary proposal for the reorganisation of local government in East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.
