Details

This is a guidance document for healthcare professionals (mainly in primary care) on the hepatitis B vaccination schedule and testing for babies born to women living with hepatitis B. It acts as a reminder of the vaccination doses and testing schedule for the child.

Healthcare professionals can also use this guidance along with the patient leaflet to advise mothers on the hepatitis B immunisation schedule for their child.

The routine childhood vaccination schedule changed on 1 July 2025 and as a result, all babies born on or after 1 July 2024 will routinely receive an additional hepatitis B dose as part of the DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB hexavalent vaccine at 18 months of age. The vaccination schedule for babies born to women with hepatitis B has been amended to reflect these changes for children born on or after 1 July 2024 so it is important that healthcare practitioners ensure they are following the correct schedule depending on the date of birth of the child.
