Details

On his first day in office, the Prime Minister announced an urgent national drive to end rough sleeping at the earliest opportunity. The Prime Minister has set his ambition to tackle one of the starkest injustices in the country and is clear that everyone should have a route off the streets this winter.

The new Rough Sleeping Programme is a key part of delivering that ambition and is backed by £442 million, over 3 years.

The Programme combines immediate provision to help people sleeping rough access accommodation and support before Christmas 2026, with settled accommodation and intensive wraparound support for people who have experienced the longest periods of rough sleeping and face the greatest barriers to leaving the streets permanently.

The Programme will be led by Mayoral Strategic Authorities and local authorities, working with local partners to provide the accommodation and support needed in their communities. Funding will support both provision for a route off the streets, ensuring people sleeping rough can rapidly access accommodation and support, and settled accommodation with intensive wraparound support for those with the most severe and long-term experiences of rough sleeping.

Together, these interventions will help people move away from rough sleeping as quickly as possible, while building sustainable routes into settled homes and ongoing support for those who need it most.

Details on how the programme should be delivered and how the funding has been allocated are set out in the documents above.
